It's not the first time I've heard the question... "What is 'Twitter'?" Have you tried to explain "Twitter" to someone who doesn't even see the point of "Facebook"?
I've got a confession to make. I'm pretty much a "techie" of sorts, but I'm also one of those who is trying to figure out the genuine fascination with "Twitter". What I'm discovering is that the more I "twitter", the more it's becoming clear to me that this "stay in touch" technology has somehow uncovered our deep seated need to be in relationship - at least on the scale of knowing somebody out there is aware that we exist and even cares enough to know what's going on in my world right now. It's strangely encouraging, somehow, to know that others would want to know your "status" or would be interested in "following" you throughout the day.
We all have this need to "know and be known"...it's hardwired into our souls. It's planted there so that we would yearn for our Creator and long to know Him. But it's also there so that we would choose to pursue relationships with those around us. Facebooking and Twittering (or should I say, "tweeting") are simply extensions of that need and, for some of us, can be at times both rewarding and entertaining.
Doing life in community...connected...is what I continually long for us to experience at Newsong. The church is a body, not a building and unless we're choosing to engage and enter into each other's lives, even if it's just a "tweet", we'll miss some of the richest moments and opportunities that our soul's crave.
So...whattdaya think?! Give it a shot... Come join me on Twitter or Facebook! See ya there!
Love wins!
